"We've known each other our whole lives. We grew up with Ann... Ms. Tate. Terryn lived on one side of her and I was on the other. We've just always been friends." He really liked talking to her, he wanted to tell her everything, but he needed to remember to just breathe.

"The three amigos. Nice. So why didn't one of you end up with her? You must know everything about her. Or would that have caused too much of a breech in the group?" Guys were so silly when it came to things like that. As much as they complained about women having their rules, men had just as many.

"When we were young we wondered the same thing. But it seems the Fates had different plans. But she seems happy enough with the angry mountain." He smirked. She really did deserve so much better, but if she was happy then he wouldn't make too much of a fuss about it.

"The Fates huh? Is that how you choose your significant others? Let them pick for you? That is so lame." She remembered hearing something about that. A race of people who's mates were chosen by the fates. What were they? Her brain was going a mile a minute.

"There are plenty of philosophers that say that free will is an illusion. Everything is ruled by Fate. Even if we don't realize it. Do you think that people come in to our lives strictly by chance?" Honestly, he agreed with her. But there was no avoiding the curse of their people. All you could do was try to survive.

"Free will is an illusion. We are ruled by the most primitive of things. Nature. We are all driven by the need to eat, drink, mate, et cetera. And the fates put people in our paths to see what we'll do. They know the choices we'll make before we make them. It's sad really. Everything in our lives is predictable. History repeats itself over and over again in different times and places in different ways." She stared out the window for a moment. Then she blushed. "Sorry. My mouth just runs away with my mind sometimes."

"No, don't apologize. It's great to see a young woman with a decent head on her shoulders. It's refreshing to see."
She was brilliant and beautiful. Again he silently thanked the fates.

She laughed. "I'm a nerd. I read too much and I think too much. My father doesn't exactly like those qualities about me. I swear if he could arrange my marriage and get away with it he would. He's very old fashioned. My brother thinks it's a plus though. He's always been on my side."

"With all due respect, your father is an idiot. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an intelligent, outspoken woman. There needs to be more of them in the world. I really not a fan of the 'women should be seen and not heard' way of thinking. There's old fashioned, then there's just bigoted. Some traditions have died for a reason."
Not that she would have to worry about an arranged marriage.... At least not from her father.

She giggled. "While I thank you for saying that, you must understand his background. He is full blooded Egyptian. My mother was, as weird as this sounds, Egyptian-Japanese. Their marriage was arranged by their fathers and a dowry was given. So in order for me to get married, my father would not only have to approve it but the man would have to ask him for his permission and wait three years."

Ugh, did he really care what her father thought? Did she? If that mattered to her, he would do it. But it sounded like she hated the idea.
"And what do you think of all that?"

"Honestly? I think it's bullshit. I should be able to marry whoever I fall in love with. This is America. I was born and raised here. But on the other hand, he is my father and I have to respect his wishes. I wouldn't mind the wooing part. But then again, I'm a teenage girl." She giggled and blushed. In reality what woman wouldn't want to be sought after and lusted for? That was half the fun.

He could Woo her. He would woo the hell out of her. When the time came he would explain himself to her father, but in the end he couldn't stop it. They were meant for each other. It seemed more likely that he would ask her brother for the right to woo her.
"You can respect him without agreeing. And you're right, you're not from his world. You can respect your culture without conforming to it." There was only a few more blocks before the ice cream parlor.

"I just worry about angering him." She spoke before she thought about what she was saying. "Oh god! Not that he beats us or anything. He'd just be angry. And I have such a good relationship with him that it would kill me. He wouldn't but the loss of that connection. Please don't think badly of him." Damnit! One word to the principal and she could be taken away from him and then he would be incarcerated for no reason. She wasn't thinking straight and just wanted to get the point across to him so she grabbed his hand. As soon as she did electricity ran through her body so hard that she shivered. The feeling came from him. Was he a Mage of some sort? It was nice, like a tingly pleasure teasing all her nerve endings. She let go as quickly as she had grabbed him.

He worried for a moment then she began to ramble, it was cute. Then she touched him, it lit him on fire. He wanted to squeeze her hand and kiss her knuckles, but sadly and yet thankfully, she withdrew it as fast as she gave it.
"Calm yourself. It's ok. I understand, I'm not going to go running the the authorities telling then you ate in an abusive home. I try really hard not to jump to conclusions." He ready wanted her hand in his again.
