Shayne was excited to see the new faces once the first bell rang. He had "Mr. Tomlinson" written on the board and a syllabus on each desk for them to read when they got to the spot they picked out until class actually began. He greeted each student as they came in and told them to pick a seat, they were not assigned. The classroom was set up in lab tables, with enough room to fit three students per table facing the front. He had a lot of fun stuff to do with them this year, including a field trip to a museum before winter hit and a trip to World's of Fun closer to the end of the year. Both permission slips were attached to the back of the syllabus.

Alli walked into class with Dash and grabbed a seat with him and waved Kieran over to sit with them as well. She looked over the papers on her desk and cheered when she saw the field trip notices. "Sweet! I heard that Mr. Tomlinson has the best field trips!" She was speaking excitedly to Dash and Kieran.
Wren walked in with her brother and pulled him to the table behind Alli, Dash and Kieran.
Sabine entered shortly after that, following Raven to where ever she chose to sit. She looked over the packet and her heart fell when she saw the field trip information. She hadn't been on a field trip in years. It usually involved paying money to go or if it extended past school hours you had to have your parents drop you off or pick you up. They couldn't afford it and her parents couldn't leave the house. Most of the kids thought she just had the worst luck of always being sick on field trip days. If any of them thought otherwise, they had been nice enough not to say anything to her about it. She really liked science too, she was sad that she wouldn't be able to join her classmates on what she was sure was going to be a lot of fun.

Kieran gladly sat with Alli and Dash. It was nice to have made friends with people who were aggressive like that knowing that he would have eventually run them off just due to his quiet nature. But he felt like talking to them, they made him comfortable enough to do so.
Raven pulled Sabine to the table in front of Alli's group. She saw her friend's face fall when she looked at the permission slips and knew exactly what she was thinking. Raven leaned into her ear and whispered, "You're going this year. I don't care what strings I have to pull, but you're going."

Raven's words warmed her and deepened her sadness all at the same time. "As long as I don't get sick. You know my luck with field trips." She smiled at her. She hated how much school she had to miss because of her home life. How much life she missed because of her home life. But then she always felt really guilty for getting upset about it. It was just here, they didn't have any other family. They took care of her when she was a baby. They were her parents. This is what she was suppose to do. She just wanted to shut her eyes and skip the rest of the day until her English class.

Raven sighed. She knew Sabine didn't get sick as often as she said she did but she couldn't do anything about it.
Shayne smiled at the class. "Alright guys, as you can see attached to your syllabus there are two permission slips. We're going to be doing a lot of hands on learning in this class and I think the field trips should accentuate those lessons. I want the first one signed and brought in by Friday so I can make plans. That gives you two days. Think you can do that for me? I do not have traditional text books for my class. We have workbooks. These have all of your homework in them for the entire year so please don't lose them. If you do, I do have extra but I don't grade as we go so your progress will be lost and you'll have to do the assignments all over again. I will check your homework at the end of each month. You'll turn them in to me and I will grade them while you take your test. Are there any questions?" He handed out the work books while he waited for anyone to speak up.

Alli looked at the book that was set down in front of her, thumbing through it. There was ALOT of shit in there. She saw lots of study parties at her place.
Sabine quietly raised her hand. "Um, Mr. Tomlinson. Do you mind if we work ahead we're able?" She liked to get as much of a head start on her homework as she could, so that it was less she had to worry about at home. She usually couldn't start it until after her parents had taken their evening meds and fallen asleep, typically around nine or ten at night.

Shayne smiled at the ambitious student. "Absolutely. Just make sure to do your reading. If you have any questions about the material ahead of time just ask. And your answers are always revisable if you've found you may have been mistaken about your answers but only until the turn in date."
Raven raised her hand. "Mr. Tomlinson? How much to the field trips cost? And what time of day are we taking them?"
He nodded. "Ah yes, the dreaded questions. I am happy to inform you that the only money that is needed is personal money. The school pays for the tickets and lunch and drinks as it is all done during the school day. The bus leaves as the first bell rings and you'll be back here before the school day ends. If you want souvenirs, that's on you."

Sabine just looked down at her paper and acted like she was taking notes. She loved Raven. She was her best friend and she didn't know what she would do without her. She just smiled and continued to doodle.
Wren turned to her brother, "Oh no, you think your going to be able to fit your giant ass self on to a roller coaster?" She stuck her tongue out at him. He just shook his head at her.
Alli turned around, giving the large boy a once over. "I'm sure we can find something to squeeze you into!" She smirked at him. She might not have actually been all gung ho boys, but she loved to see them blush. And the large kid with the pretty eyes was turning a nice shade of pink.

Dash looked down at his paper and pretended to be reading. He couldn't believe she just said that. Moreover, he couldn't believe that he was angry about her saying it. Why shouldn't she flirt? He was flirting with Wren earlier. He had just hoped that maybe she would have gotten jealous that he had been flirting and clung to him a little tighter. Oh well. He was forever in the friend zone with her.
Kieran smirked at Alli's brashness. He didn't turned to look at Caden but he knew his reaction was to be turning all shades of pink. He hoped he was cooler than him.
Shayne sensed that there were no more questions so he began his lecture.

Alli winked at the pink boy and turned back around to start taking notes. Dash seemed put off, damn it. He was just being all Rico Suave with the boy's sister and she didn't get that pissy. She got a little pissy, but not much.
Wren just trying to stiffle the eruption of giggles as she watched her brother turn a rosy shade of pink. Caden just turned and glared at his sister. It shut her up quickly. He'd always had the effect on her when he actually used it. He could be intimidating when he needed to be, he just didn't like to.
Sabine just opened her work book and started taking notes.

Shayne didn't lecture for that long before he gave them all time to look through their homework. It wasn't much, just a recap of what he had been talking about with a few questions to be answered.
Dash didn't know what to say to Alli. He'd made things awkward for himself. He stifled a yawn and lay his head down on his arms. "Why does class have to be so early?" he asked out loud to no one in particular.

"Cause if it's any later then it runs into our time to be out pickin' the cotton in our Daddy's field." Alli giggled. "And they haven't changed school hours since the 1940s. But you can't yawn now, cause then I'll yawn. Then you'll lay your head down, then I'll have to claim you as my pillow. Then there's all kinds of legal documents we have to sign... And I'm just not ready for that kind of commitment."
Sabine heard the conversation behind her and giggled. She had always thought that they would be a cute couple, but Alli never really seemed interested. But to be fair, she didn't seem interested in anyone. She wished she could be as comfortable with anyone as they were with each other though. Maybe with Mr. Kirowitz... She shook the awful thought from her head.
Wren just giggled. "Can I claim you first?" Caden just looked at his sister. Was she actually interested in the sandy haired boy, just being cute or trying to upset the bi-eyed one? Or worst of all, did she even know what she was doing?

Dash contemplated his answered carefully. He could say he was unclaimable but that could go two different ways. Either he seemed unattainable or they would fight for him. The second one kind of amused him. So he just settled with, "You two will have to duke it out and whoever wins can use me as a pillow." That sent off the vibe he wanted it to. He was pretty sure Alli could take her so it would boost her confidence and maybe she would actually fight for him. It also told them both that he was interested in being used for a "pillow". His mind was an evil genius this morning! His dad would be so proud!

Wren looked the girl over. She was bigger than her, and thicker too. But she was tricksy and she was fast. "Eh, I think I can take her."
Alli had just been joking around, then the tiny girl challenged her. "Oh really there, Minnie Mouse? Not on your best day. You want this, pack a lunch and a step ladder." She didn't care who Dash got all flirty with, but now she decided that is was NOT going to be this girl.
Sabine just cringed. Alli was a great girl, but you didn't challenge her. She was a hot head. "Did she really just taunt Allison?" She whispered to Raven.

Raven giggled and nodded her head. "Yup. But she's new so she doesn't know any better. I guess she'll find out. So when's English again?" She waited to see her reaction, knowing it was going to be funny.
Dash put his hand on Alli's. "Alli, we're all kidding here. Right?" He looked at Wren for a confirmation. He really didn't want Alli beating some girl's face in on the first day. He had wanted them to fight over him but not physically.
