The class was shocked into silence. They'd expected her to crack another joke but instead she pulled out a poetic truth. No one had any other question for her.
Lance watched Ms. O'Connell's face go from joking to cold and then a smile. She had a history. He wondered if it was anything like his sister's. Gods he hoped not. But sometimes beauty was a curse. He felt for her but he couldn't ever express that to her because she was a teacher.

"Right well, if there is nothing else then, this would be that time when you can talk, take out your phones, what have you. Just don't get so loud that you get me sent to the Principal's office. Thanks! If anyone has any question's they'd like to ask in a less public setting you can come up and ask." With that she sat down at her desk and started looking over something on her computer.
Karra watched the woman's moods go from hot to cold and back again so fast she thought there was going to be thunderstorm right there in the classroom. She looked at Landread with her eyes wide.

Landread shrugged. He had no clue what was up with the boss lady but it was clear she had some issues. He smiled up at Karra. "So, you gonna do my homework for me?" He knew he was going to get hit or have to dodge a snide comment. He loved teasing her.
Keira walked up to Ms. O'Connell's desk, speaking loud enough so the people in at least the front row could hear her. "Excuse me, but I was wondering if you would recommend any books that I could read to supplement the book you've given us so I can better understand the material?"
Lance sighed. "Oh can it Keira." She whipped around to glare at him. "Did you even hear what she said at the beginning of class? Don't be a dick. Something tells me she doesn't take kindly to false suck ups looking to be the teacher's pet."

Karra smirked at him. "Dunno, what's in it for me? You're a bit to scrawny fer me ta be puttin you to work at the barn."
El looked up at the girl with a droll look, "Yeah, you want a recommendation, read the news paper, a few different ones. That way when I ask you a question you can give me an intelligent, educated opinion and not regurgitate some drivel you heard on fox news or at your parents dinner table. And you want to understand the material better, try listening while sitting in front of your instructor, rather than trying to hear it while your nose is planted in their ass." She looked passed the girl to the boy that had spoke up. "And with all due respect Stolyer, Leave the snarky reminders to me. It's one of the fringe benefits of my job, I'd like to keep it that way."
He was right though, she didn't like suck up entitled little twats. But she couldn't say that much out loud. And she'd just read an email from the principal warning everyone to keep their eyes on this one that she had a bad attitude and a vendetta.

Landread gave Karra a devious smirk. "I can do other things."
"Yes ma'am," Keira muttered before sitting back down. On her way back though, she did give Lance a 'suck it' face.
Lance rolled his eyes, silently thanking the teacher for making his day worse. He was just as bad as Kaleb but he was more tactful about it so he rarely got in trouble for it. He blew out an agitated breath and counted the minutes until the class ended.

Karra laughed. "Oh yeah? What can you do?" She was daring him. They had been friends forever. Such an unlikely pair. He really was kinda skinny for her taste, but she'd seen him haul giant guitar amps that were just as big if not heavier than the bails of hay that she threw on a regular basis. She still really wanted to get him on a horse, but he'd always been too afraid. She loved going to watch his band practice though.

Before he could give her an answer, the bell rang which was ok by him because the things he wanted to say and the things he should say were colliding in his head to the point where he almost told her he could kiss her cookies. "Tell ya later." He winked at her.
Lance all but leaped from his desk when the bell rang. He wanted to get to Mr. Kirowitz's room so he could walk Kat to her next class. Maybe if she got used to seeing him in between every class she would be ok through the day.
