The nurses got Lydia checked in as much as they could without her father being there. They got her set up in a room, set her up with an IV and the doctor came in to check her out. Mr. Jassen still hadn't shown up. She had been in her room for a half an hour and things were getting desperate.
Finally the doctor came out into the waiting room. "Ted Jassen? Annaleigh Tate?"

Anna stood up and met the Doctor. "Hello, I'm Ms. Tate. I spoke with Mr. Janssen, and he said he was on his way, but he has yet to arrive, to my knowledge. How is Lydia?"

The doctor's brow creased with worry. "Well, I was really hoping to talk to her father about this." He sighed. "I'm not really supposed to say this but we really need to proceed to surgery. She's losing too much blood. The nurse has tried the number Lydia gave to us but he isn't answering. We don't want to worry her but is there any other guardian we can talk to? A step mother perhaps?"

"I'm sorry, there is not." Now Anna was really getting worried. Give her and her mother half an hour with the girl and she would be just fine. But she couldn't do that here, at least without drawing a lot of unwanted attention.

"I hope he gets here soon. We can't wait much longer. If you'd like to sit in her room with her you can. No laws against visitors." He offered to have her follow him back to Lydia's room.

"Thank you, Doctor." She followed him into her room, talking to Ivan and Terryn on the way"
Hey, I'm at the hospital with Lydia. She needs surgery but her father still hasn't arrived. Is there anyway that one of you might be able to help me track him down. He said he was on his way when I spoke to him. I'm worried something has happened to him.
She walked into the room with a smile, she didn't want to alarm the girl.

Ivan piped up. I'll look into it since I don't have class and I'll let you know when I come up with something.
Lydia gave a worried smile to her principal. She was pale and tired looking. She wasn't in pain because of the meds they had slipped into her IV with the saline solution and blood. She looked behind her to see if her dad was there but saw no sign of him which made her even more scared. She looked up at the woman with big eyes. "The doctor said I needed surgery but he's waiting on my dad to give the ok. I don't know why he's not here yet. His office isn't that far away."

"He's on his way, honey. I spoke to him on the phone before I left the school." She walked up to her and took her hand. She wished that she had more answers for her, but she had no current information as to where her father was.

She looked down at their hands as tears welled up in her eyes. "The doctor said they have to do a hysterectomy because my uterus can't be saved. So, I'll never be able to have kids." Her voice broke and then she cleared her throat. She was trying not to cry. She'd always dreamed of having a large family with lots of children so that they wouldn't have to experience what it was like to be an only child. Now that would never happen.

Oh fuck that! No one deserved to be denied the ability to have a family, especially not so young. There had to be something she could do.
She smiled at the girl and gave her hand a squeeze. "Shh, you never know. Miracles happen. They might find that it's not as bad as they think. And even so, even if it happens, there is always the other options for families. I know it's not the same, but it's not the end. But, like I said, just breath and have faith." She brushed her hair away from her face. She felt so much for the girl. The fear of a barren womb was the fear of ever Carpathian woman. It was a fear that weighed on her ever day. And she didn't even have a Lifemate.
"Forgive me if I'm being bold, but does your family pray?"
Mom, I need you or Uncle Gregori.

Lydia shook her head. "No, my dad isn't religious. But I pray whenever I eat dinner at Kyli's house. Her whole family is religious." She really wanted to believe that it wasn't as bad as the doctors thought but she had felt so horrible. Why would they be wrong? She wanted to be optimistic but it was really difficult.
What do you need honey? And where do you need me to be? Shea answered her daughter's plea and as she spoke she was already moving closer to her. Gregori followed.
