Anna reached out to touch the girl's arm and stopped when she saw her recoil. "I promise they won't harm you. If you are ever afraid you can come to me. I will let your teachers know you have permission to leave whenever you need."
Kat looked up at the woman with wide eyes and meekly spoke in her brother's mind. "Should I trust her, Bubby? She seems like a nice lady. She's a good person, right Bubby?"

Lance looked Miss Tate over. Her offer to Kat was more than acceptable. He doubted the old principal would have made anything close. He connected with his sister on their private wavelength. "Absolutely Kitty Kat. There's a reason she's the leader of the school. She's trustworthy and dependable and very nice."
He nodded to Anna, speaking out loud now. "Thank you for the kind offer Miss Tate. What do you think Kat? Is that acceptable for you?"
Riq had walked into the office to grab the bignets for Des. His hand reached for the teacher's lounge door handle, confused at why it was shut but Kallen stopped him and explained to him the situation. He sighed and sat down next to Keira in the outer office so that when the girl came out she wouldn't be afraid of him due to his height. He wondered if she liked cats. Usually a cat's purr settled anyone's nerves.

Kat nodded her head and mopped her face with the sleeve of her shirt. She was sure she looked nothing like the girl that was known world wide for fashion and editorial modeling, and to be honest, she liked the idea of that. The girl in those pictures wasn't her. The girl in those pictures was biting and snarling and screaming inside her head. She had locked away for too long. She had actually made it almost a week without an episode. She needed to keep it that way.
"Thank you, Miss Tate. I won't be a bad girl. I promise. I'll be good." She gave the pretty woman a weak smile. She needed to do this. Her life literally depended on it. She stood from her brother's lap grabbing her backpack. "Where do I need to go?"
Anna rose with a soft smile. She just wanted to hug the girl and tell her that she was safe here and everything was going to be alright. She really hoped that things went smoothly for her. But, this was high school and she was a very pretty girl, she couldn't help but feel like she'd seen her somewhere before. "I'll show you little one. And just so you know there are a few men walking around the building in black shirts with golden bears on them. Those are good guys, think of them like cops, if you need help and you don't know where to go, you can talk to them and they will help you. That's their jobs. I promise they won't hurt you, they only want to help. Alright?"
Kat nodded, she didn't like the idea of lots of large, muscular men everywhere, but Lance had convinced her that the Police were really the good guys. Something that for the last eleven years of her life she had been told otherwise, but she believed him so it must be true. "Ok, Miss Tate." She followed the fire-haired woman keeping her eyes trained on the back of her shoes. That way she didn't have to look at anyone else.

Once Kat had left the room with the principal, he let out a sigh and ran his fingers through his hair. He was tired. Not that he didn't love his sister to death, but the fight to keep Natasha away was a never ending battle. He stood and straightened his damp shirt and followed them out. He saw Kaleb in the principal's private office so he poked his head in. Making contact with him he begged. "Please not her. Anyone but her, even me." Kaleb nodded at him.
Riq looked up at Anna when she finally walked out of the lounge. "Ev'rytin' alright? I figered I'd wait til joo were done to get my bignets." He looked at Kat. "Well hey der pretty lady. My name is Riq. Was jers?" He had a friendly smile on his face. Sitting down he was shorter than her so he hoped he wouldn't intimidate her.

Anna smiled at Riq. "Thank you."
Kat stopped in her tracks, had he spoke to her? She turned to look at him. She studied his face, there was something off, not completely normal about it. But it wasn't unpleasant. She stepped back only a half a step and spoke softly, almost too soft to hear. "K-Katya, Sir." She kept searching his face, trying to figure out what was different, she swore she saw something on his eyes, but she blinked and it was gone. She was looking him over like an animal examines something new for the first time, taking the time to decide if it was friend or foe.

"Katya? Dat's a mighty beautiful name. Welcome ta Turner. If joo need anytin' joo just let me know ok?" Riq kept his voice calm and friendly towards the girl. He could smell her fear radiating from her. He wondered what had caused her to be so afraid of men but in reality he really didn't want to know. He was pretty sure it would just piss him off.
Lance smiled behind his sister. Riq was the friendliest of the SRA's that he knew. He was always so calm and relaxed but yet he always looked like he could be ready to pounce should the situation arise.

She noticed his shirt. A Black shirt with a golden bear. "You're one of the good guys, right?" This must be one of the men that the pretty Principal lady was talking about.
Anna just watched the interlude. It gave her hope for the girl, and greatly endeared Riq to her. She nodded to Lance and quickly walked to the secretary's desk to retrieve the girl's class schedule and two hall passes. She walked back and handed them to him while Riq calmed the girl.
She whispered to Lance. "If you need anything or if there is anything that me or my staff may need to be aware of, please just let me know." It seemed strange for her to be talking to another student this way. Normally this should be a conversation she should be having with their parent or guardian. But, he seemed to be her guardian. She nodded to him and returned to her office where the Draconis men were still waiting.
There was already a line forming outside her door and the first bell hadn't even rang yet.

Riq was a little confused by her question but knew he should answer it so that she without a doubt had no question she could trust him. He felt that she needed that reassurance. "Yes I am. I patrol dees halls an' make sure ev'ryone is safe. Joo have a problem joo come to me. Deal?"
Lance nodded to Anna and whispered back to her quickly, "I would like to discuss a few things with you when we both have time." He walked up behind Kat and rested his chin on her head. "I have your schedule when your ready to go to class," he whispered in her mind.

Something about his voice calmed her slightly. She smiled sweetly at him. "Ok, good. Deal!" She leaned her head back to look up at her brother. "Ok, we can go now." She spoke out loud. "I'm ready."
Anna just walked into her office and shut the door. "Please excuse the commotion, it seems that we are going to have a rather eventful first day. Now, where were we." She sat on the edge of her desk.
"Right, Good morning, Kaleb. I don't believe we've had the pleasure yet. My name is Miss Tate, now what has brought you to my office this morning, since I gather you weren't aware that your Father was here, that rules that out. So, what can I do for you, Sir?" She was genuine and sweet. But she gave an air that said she wouldn't be pushed around. She didn't believe in being a hard ass. These kids are in the transition phases of their lives, they needed structure, but not a dictator. And she really did want to help them.

Lance nodded in thanks to Riq and led Kat to her first class. Riq then walked into the lounge, grabbed his bignets, bowed to the ladies in the room and then quickly walked back to Des.
Kaleb had been fuming but the girl's reaction had defused it. He sighed. "Keira got in my face this morning and said a few things so I pushed my desk into her. She's fine. Obviously, she's in the front room. I just don't know if I can handle her sh--, uh, comments this year. Mr. Bennett didn't exactly send me here. I stood up and left before he said anything to me." His bad rep and sour disposition had gotten him nowhere but in trouble. And now he hadn't even started anything, had actually started making a friend, and it was all ruined because of things he'd said and done in the past. He was screwed.

Anna listened to the boy. "So, you are here of your own volition? That shows great initiative and control. May I see your Schedule? If the problem seems to be with one individual we can see about making sure the two of you don't share any classes where ever possible. No reason not to give you the best chance to succeed." She smiled at him. She wanted him to trust her. She needed the students and the parents to trust her. She put her hand out for the schedule.

Kaleb looked from her to his father and then back at her. Definitely not the response he was expecting. He didn't know exactly what he had been expecting but this wasn't it. He took his schedule out of his binder and handed it to her. "I don't know what she has for classes but I think it might help if we didn't have any together." He was liking this. If she could put him in more classes with Shannon that would be awesome. He liked her. She was funny.

Anna took it from her and pulled up the other girl up in the computer. Luckily there was only one girl in his grade named Kiera. She compared them, luckily they didn't share most of their classes anyway. Really just Homeroom, lunch and one of the same electives. She made some minor adjustments, he didn't have to sacrifice any of the classes that were on his schedule and she got him away from a problem. She didn't mind giving him a chance. Now, if he ended up in her office again wanting to avoid another person they were going to have to explore a different course of action. But they could start here.
"There, look this over and see if it works for you." She grabbed the new schedule off her printer and handed it to him.

Kaleb took his new schedule and looked it over to make sure everything was set the way he wanted it. There weren't any changes to his classes other than the time they were going on. He looked back up at her with a relieved look on his face. "Thank you. This is great." He actually smiled. This year was going to be better. He felt it in his gut. He just needed to avoid her at lunch and he could always come in to school later so he wouldn't have to spend any time in home room. But then he'd miss talking to Shannon. He'd have to see how this played out.

"Very well. Mr. Draconis, Does this work for you?" She wanted to make sure that she had put his mind at ease as well. They seemed to be just the first step on what was going to prove to be one of the most interesting days of her career.
